From
Our President…

As we turn another calendar page, hopefully we can shake off
the winter doldrums and look forward to spring. We also look forward to many
exciting events coming up on our own synagogue calendar that I would like to
bring to your attention.
Our new friends from Temple Emanu-El will officially be
joining with us during March, as we become Scarsdale Synagogue Temples
Tremont and Emanu-El. While there has been much discussion about the name,
we are quite fortunate to be able to embrace and include the names and
histories of three such impressive institutions. Emanu-El will hold their
last service in their current
Yonkers location with a Havdalah service on Saturday, March 8th
at 4 PM, followed by an oneg. We will begin worshipping together in
our building (though some have already been to several of our services
already) at Shabbat services Friday, March 14th. We will hold a
special welcoming celebration that evening, and we are also planning a more
formal ceremonial service a bit later in the spring, when the weather is a
little nicer.
Surrounding all of this is Shabbat Across America, on Friday,
March 7th, which will include services and dinner, as all
synagogues of all denominations of Judaism across the country celebrate
Shabbat together. Our Purim celebration is on Thursday, March 20th.
The evening will include a program for the kids at
6:30, and a light dinner
and study session at
7:30 followed by the Megillah reading- in Hebrew and English, by
amateurs and pros alike- for the adults. Costumes are encourages.
Finally, our Annual “Funraiser” will be held at the synagogue
on April 5th. Chairperson Bonnie Sachs and her incredible team of
party planners have been hard at work to make sure the evening is a huge
success. In addition to dinner and dancing, we will have casino tables and a
“pub” room, for those who might want a little quiet time. We also have some
fabulous items available at the silent auction, as well as wonderful raffle
prizes. This is a great opportunity to have a marvelous evening AND
support the synagogue, as we depend on the revenues from the event to
bolster our budget for items such as education, tzedakah and other programs.
I look forward to seeing
you at all of these events.
