Rabbi Andrew Jacob Gordon grew up in Toledo, Ohio where he was involved in youth group and was inspired to join the rabbinate because of his teacher Rabbi Edward Garsek. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Rabbi Gordon received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Judaic Studies with high honors, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 2008, he received his rabbinic ordination from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York.
As a student, Rabbi Gordon served congregations in Pound Ridge, NY, Livingston, NJ, Williamsport, PA, Rocky Mount, NC, and Wellesley, MA. He also served as the student chaplain in the palliative care unit of Mount Sinai Hospital. Committed to social justice and Congregation Based Community Organizing, Rabbi Gordon has been involved with the Union for Reform Judaism's Just Congregations, the Jewish Funds for Justice internship program, and the with the URJ Commission on Social Action. Before entering rabbinical school, Rabbi Gordon served two years as the full-time youth educator at a conservative congregation in Lexington, MA.
Rabbi Gordon is married to his life partner, Brian ten Siethoff, who is a Senior Associate with Cambridge Systematics, a national transportation planning consultancy. Brian works with transportation agencies in making better decisions about planning and managing our transportation infrastructure and services.
