1st Friday of the month
at 6 :00 p.m.-Shabbat LaMishpachah Alef (November-May)
This is a one-hour
informal and interactive Family Shabbat Service conducted by our Temple
Educator, designed for families with children in grades K through 3 . The
service includes a Torah reading and study tailored to the age of its
congregants (Shabbat LaMishpachah Alef features a “Puppet Parshah”). We
pray, read Torah, sing, eat and rejoice (sometimes all at the same time!).
at 8:00 p.m. – Sabbath of Simchah
As we welcome Shabbat, we
will also celebrate our simchas. Such sharing of our lives deepens
our connections with one another. Regular Torah reading and
discussion/sermon. Special Aliyah for those observing a birthday, or wishing
to recognize another happy occasion.
2nd Friday of the month
at 6:00 p.m.-Shabbat LaMishpachah Bet(November-May)
Same as Shabbat
LaMishpacha Alef but designed for families with children in grades 4-6
at 8:00 p.m. – Shir Shabbat
A warm, embracing, and
community-building service which emphasizes music over the spoken word.
Instruments enhance the musical experience. Familiar and new melodies are
intertwined with special readings to create an enriching Shabbat experience.
Includes a short reflection on one prayer in the liturgy or a brief d’var
Torah.
3rd Friday of the month
at 8:00 p.m. – Chavurah Service
A true celebration of
community that meets in the Parents’ Lounge. It offers a very welcoming,
learner-friendly ambience even as it creates stronger connections among the
participants. The service is guided by lay leaders, usually with the
inspired musical leadership of Merri Lovinger Arian. Note: This service will
also meet as part of Synaplex(see below).
Synaplex™ (on three
Fridays during the year)
This experience, initiated
by the Star Foundation, offers a wide variety of program and activities, as
many diverse groups come to the synagogue to celebrate Shabbat, to worship,
and to eat together. An invigorating way to enjoy Shabbat, we will have
three worship options: our Chavurah service plus two grade-led Shabbat
Family services ( one geared towards younger children and one towards older
children). A
festive Shabbat dinner
will allow all to celebrate together. There will truly be something for
everyone.
4th Friday of the month
at 6:30 p.m. – Ma-ariv Service
An early and abbreviated
service with a more informal atmosphere. At 6 PM we will have a pre-service
oneg so worshipers can greet each other and enjoy a nosh together.
Afterwards participants go home to have a Shabbat dinner or celebrate the
Shabbat with a song-filled dinner at the synagogue (check our synagogue
calendar). Families are encouraged to participate, for this is a unique
opportunity for our generations to mingle together.
5th Friday of the month
at 8:00 p.m. –Fifth Fridays: Contemporary Issues Forum
This service looks much
like the first Friday with a Torah reading. On all fifth Fridays we will
include a special segment of the service to focus on the pressing issues of
our time.
EVEN MORE WORSHIP
EXPERIENCES
FOR ADULTS:
Torah Circle (first
Saturday of every month October-May)
This is an informal,
monthly alternative Shabbat Morning service for adults, centering on study
of the week’s Parshah. This welcoming community enjoys spending 90 minutes
sharing a bagel and their thoughts.
FOR FAMILIES:
Temple for Tots/Tot
Shabbat (once each month September through May)
At 6:00 p.m. our pre-schoolers
through kindergarteners gather to celebrate Shabbat with singing, prayer, a
glance at the Torah, challah, juice, and a very special craft project. An
interactive celebration of the joy of Shabbat, allowing our youngest members
to feel welcome and comfortable in our Sanctuary.
Religious School
Tefillah
Grades K-3 meet for
worship on the first Sunday of every month led by our educator, Rebecca
Shubert and our Cantor, Chanin Becker. Grades 4-6 meet to worship together
every Monday when there is
Religious
School
under the instructive guidance of Rebecca Shubert. Parent participation is
always welcome and encouraged!
FOR ALL:
Bar/Bat Mitzvah:
We are proud of our
students who choose to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Nearly all of them will lead
a Shabbat morning service in the sanctuary and occasionally they will lead
an Afternoon and Havdallah service. Although many invited guests will
join them, all are welcome to attend any of our Saturday Shabbat services.
Summer Services:
Friday night services
during the summer months of July and August are conducted by members of the
congregation with the participation of our clergy. They are a warm and
informal worship experience.
